I loved this because it was a fix-it in the way I like fix-its: Ianto doesn't die in that kinda sucky was he did in canon but is still doomed nonetheless. Just in a slightly more epic, but still believable, way. ;)
I enjoyed the mounting sense of dread of the last few chapters after Ianto gets back and everything is still not copacetic. Wishing things would work out all rainbows and bunnies-like but knowing that this is Torchwood and good luck with that, sister. Sometimes things are just not meant to end well or happily and when it's written well, like this, makes it feel just as fulfilling and right as something romantical. If that makes sense. I just feel so bad/sad for Jack for reading the effing history book because he couldn't help himself and for Ianto for knowing that Jack knows what's going to happen to him but not pushing it for Jack's sake.
Oh the angst! I want to drizzle it like honey over a warm croissant and savor it!
Timey-wimey FTW!
